Attendees will gain insight into the stories behind each wine, the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into producing them, and the unique character of the Barossa Valley’s celebrated vineyards. It will all be paired with Eileen’s Charcoal Grill’s European-style steak menu as led by Executive Chef Min Gurung. With Winepress Wines hosting the evening, An Evening with Torbreck will perfectly marry the quality drops with exceptional dining, and a dose of education.
It will all take place at Eileen’s Charcoal Grill’s intimate and evocative restaurant. Part of the Upham hospitality portfolio, and located in the same historic venue as Sawyers Arms Tavern and Asian-fusion destination Two Noble, Eileen’s honours the legacy of Mrs Eileen Clatworthy, who ran the tavern for 68 years with unmatched charisma and dedication to hospitality. Designed by Pip Johnson, the interior combines royal blue tones, tartan carpets, marble features, and walls adorned with intriguing photographs and memorabilia of Geelong and its football culture. The steak-focused menu is just as alluring featuring delights such as marbled steak with Béarnaise sauce, duck-fat fries, classic butter lettuce salad, steak tartare, and indulgent desserts including profiteroles and tiramisu.
Winepress Wine, founded by Geelong native Nick Veanes, embodies the philosophy of wine “by people, for people.” A locally owned, independent wine retailer, Winepress stocks wines handpicked for their quality, provenance, and stories. Nick’s extensive experience in restaurants across London and Melbourne, coupled with his formal Wine & Spirit Education Trust training, has given him a rare talent for pairing wine with food across all price points while creating an engaging, educational experience for guests. With his palette and knowledge for the drop, Veanes earmarked Torbreck as the ideal pairing for Eileen’s and a limited number of guests will get to taste why.
The wine list is a clear indication of the quality of evening boasting Forest-Marie Champagne Brut Tradition NV, Torbreck Cuvée Juveniles Blanc 2025, Torbreck The Steading Blanc MRV 2024, Torbreck Hillside Vineyard Grenache 2022, Torbreck Harris Vineyard Grenache 2024, Torbreck The Gask Eden Valley Shiraz 2024, Torbreck The Factor Shiraz 2023, Torbreck The Descendant Shiraz Viognier 2023, and Torbreck The RunRig Shiraz Viognier 2022.
