Bringing brews to Belmont: Mt Pleasant Rd Brewers pays homage with hops

On Mount Pleasant Road, tucked amid the gentle hum of Belmont, a quiet revolution in craft beer has been quietly brewing.

On this busy main road of the popular Geelong suburb you’ll find Mt Pleasant Rd Brewers. Mark and Tim have transformed curiosity into craft, shaping a brewery that honours the places and people around them. Long-time lovers of quality beer, they spent years sampling local and international brews before the question naturally arose: could they create something of their own, something that reflected their neighbourhood and its flavours? Over three years, the paramedic and teacher experimented tirelessly, refining recipes with patience and care, driven by the desire to craft beers meant to be savoured slowly, to be appreciated for the depth and personality each one reveals.

From the outset, the focus was on local ingredients and collaboration. Hops grown in a Highton backyard, honey harvested from rooftop bees in Belmont, and partnerships with nearby gin makers have all found their way into their bottles and taps. These touches of home give each beer a unique identity, anchoring it to the streets and suburbs they know so well. The resulting range is as diverse as it is distinct, from pale ales that sing with floral hop notes to dark, brooding stouts with a whisper of coffee, and even a cherry lambic that hints at playful experimentation.

Their beers carry the spirit of Belmont in every sip. The Belmont Common is a nod to their neighbourhood, while Tropical Eclipse Pale Ale and Raspberry Wheat Beer celebrate local bounty and seasonal inspiration. The Dark Side of High Street Coffee Stout reminds drinkers of the main shopping street – the cafes, the stores, the supermarkets, the regulars and the daily rhythm of community life. Recognition has followed, with international awards acknowledging the craft and care behind each brew, yet the heart of Mt Pleasant Brewers remains firmly local. Their taproom at 110 Mount Pleasant Road is a place to linger, to taste, and to feel connected to the craft and the place that inspired it.

Innovation continues at the taproom with the “Taproom Exclusive” series, where Mark and Tim create speciality beers in small batches. Only two or three kegs are produced at a time, ensuring that each release is unique. The latest, The Roslyn Red IPA, continues their signature local homage not only paying parallel main road, but to the sea of red from the uniforms of the local primary school. Released on Friday 1st May, is a malt-driven delight, brewed with El Dorado, Idaho 7, Vic Secret, and Mosaic hops. At 5.2 percent, it is piney, malty, and sessionable, a beer made to enjoy slowly while soaking in the community around you.

The brewery is also cultivating connection in other ways. From May through to September, the first Sunday of every month is reserved for monthly trivia sessions run in collaboration with Anything Goes Entertainment. From 5:00 to 7:00 pm, teams of one to four can test their knowledge while enjoying a schooner of beer or a glass of house wine, all for twelve dollars per person. It is a convivial, playful way for locals to gather, reflect, and share in the simple joy of an evening spent together.

It also makes the most of their stunning taproom. Sunlight pours generously through the windows, illuminating a space that feels effortlessly welcoming. With its 38 seats, muted earthy tones and subtle nods to 1970s design, the taproom carries a retro charm that is both understated and inviting. It extends out the back into a quaint but vibrant beer garden.

Mt Pleasant Rd Brewers isn’t mere a place to taste exceptional craft beer. It is a celebration of local flavours, local ingredients, and the neighbourhood that inspires them. Each brew is a story of curiosity, patience, and a deep respect for the land and community that surrounds the brewery. If you’re after a great beer and a great time, make Mt Pleasant Brewers you next stop in.
