TV Smith, the founder, singer, and songwriter of the legendary British punk band The Adverts, will tour Australia for the first time in April 2026 with his band, TV Smith’s Adverts.
This highly anticipated tour will see Smith perform in some of the country’s most iconic venues, including the Barwon Club in Geelong on Easter Saturday, 4 April, as well as shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle, and Wollongong. Formed in 1976, The Adverts were at the forefront of the first wave of British punk, playing a key role in the genre’s explosive rise. Their 1977 single ‘One Chord Wonders’ became an anthem for the punk generation, while ‘Gary Gilmore’s Eyes’ – a record that catapulted them into the top 20 – cemented their place in punk history. Their debut album Crossing the Red Sea with the Adverts (1978) remains a defining moment in the genre, with its raw sound and defiant attitude continuing to resonate with fans and critics alike. As part of their early success, The Adverts toured with the likes of The Damned and Iggy Pop, building a legacy that endures to this day.
After The Adverts disbanded in 1979, TV Smith continued to carry the torch of punk with his fiercely independent solo career. Whether performing acoustic shows or fronting his band, Smith’s music has always remained true to the rebellious spirit of punk rock. He has toured alongside Stiff Little Fingers, The Damned, and Ruts DC, bringing his distinctive voice and storytelling to audiences around the globe. Now, in 2026, he brings his iconic songs and punk anthems to Australian stages for the first time, ensuring that a new generation of fans can experience the magic of punk’s golden age firsthand.
With support from rising local bands like Alien Nosejob, Handgrenade Hearts, The Dark Clouds, and others, this tour is set to be a celebration of punk in all its raw, untamed glory. Whether you’ve been a lifelong fan of The Adverts or you’re new to their sound, this tour offers an unmissable opportunity to witness punk history in the making. Be sure to catch TV Smith and his band at the Barwon Club, or any of the other shows across Australia—this is a rare moment for the punk community to come together and relive the spirit of ’77.
