The Environmental Music Prize was founded by social entrepreneur Edwina Floch, and is run in association with Green Music Australia. The aim is to raise awareness and amplify messages pertaining to environmental issues across the globe.
The prize has captured international attention, with fans from 59 countries voting for finalists that included some of Australia’s most celebrated artists including Flume, Lime Cordiale, Tash Sultana, Briggs, Midnight Oil, Jack River, Mo’Ju, Paul Kelly, King Stingray, Emily Wurramara, In Hearts Wake, Ziggy Alberts and local legends, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Xavier Rudd.
The latter two previous winners – King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Xavier Rudd – generously donated the $20,000 winnings to grassroots conservation groups, helping fund vital work and spotlighting organisations protecting Country, coastlines and biodiversity.
Reflecting on the impact of the prize, Xavier Rudd is calling on the next wave of artists to use their platform for good, “It was truly inspiring to see so many great Australian musicians getting behind our country and our planet. The Environmental Music Prize is important because it’s an inspiration for younger artists to use their voice to protect this beautiful earth. I hope it can continue to grow, so that awareness also grows.”
Edwina Floch adds, “This isn’t just about a single winner. It’s about building a chorus of voices. Songs that touch people stay with them. They influence how we think, feel and act. That’s the kind of shift we need right now. If you’ve made music that reflects your love for the planet, or the challenges we face, we want to hear it.”

Unsigned artists are encouraged to apply. A special sub-prize for ‘Emerging Environmental Artist’ will also be awarded, with the winner receiving a limited-edition eco-vinyl release supported by Impressed Recordings.
The 2025 Prize is launching at a time of mounting urgency. According to the latest UN data, global temperatures have risen 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels across an entire year for the first time in recorded history. With the UN Climate Summit (COP30) taking place this November in Brazil, this year’s prize offers artists a high-profile platform to lead cultural conversations about climate through story and song.
Finalists will be selected by a panel of environmental leaders and music industry ambassadors. Voting opens 22 September and the winner, chosen by the public, will be announced 27 October.
It’s the final days to enter the social environmental impact prize. To find out more information about the Environmental Music Prize, or to submit an entry head here.
