The band will be bringing their latest album offering to audiences titled The Rose of Aces. Following on from Destiny Hotel, the band tapped into their songwriting soul.
“What it continued from the perspective of the band is the progress as a songwriting and performance band. Songs are very tricky suckers. But the ensemble needs to equal the material. So you work on lining up of those planets,” explains Soria.
The band are seasoned album makers, keeping the craft of album curation at the forefront of their focus. For The Rose of Aces, cohesion was a priority.

“It’s kind of in the back of your mind when you are geared for an album type band. A lot of new artists don’t really think that way. Everything is a single. But we are very, very old-school. So in the back of our mind during writing and recording is this uniformity.”
The album takes them to Mexico both in name and in production. Recorded between the band’s Nashville compound and their artist refuge in Todos Santos, Mexico, their friends and hotel owners are the namesakes of the record; the band constantly bringing characters from their journeys into their work.
“Rose and Ace are our friends down in Mexico. So it’s more like we take the songs with us. We formed them in front of the different people we play in front of. And thus we allow them to be formed by the people and the places,” Soria says.
“They are just a few of the many characters.”

Bringing tracks like ‘Fallen Angels of Rock ’n’ Roll’ and ‘High Roller’ to our shores, the bands live show is a point of pride. Think high energy shows that feel like you’re inside a jam session, where improvisation is key.
“Improvisation is the only way to stay very very pure. How could you not improvise? People are not the same every day. The conditions are different. Feelings emotions. Desire is changing fluctuating by the day. We also believe deeply in folk music and the repetition of one song being played and going deeper and deeper into it. So we try to incorporate both schools. We elaborate around the folk song.”
Expect magic to make its way to Barwon Club Hotel on 10 October.
