Running from 1 June to 31 August, the limited season transforms traditional moviegoing into something far more immersive, where audiences don’t simply watch the story unfold, they become part of it.
Through cutting-edge 360-degree virtual reality and cinematic surround sound, viewers are transported across some of the world’s most extraordinary landscapes in three spectacular experiences: The Antarctica Experience, The Great Kimberley Wilderness and Beyond the Milky Way. From Antarctica’s icy wilderness to the ancient beauty of the Kimberley and the vastness of deep space, each film places audiences at the heart of the action in a format designed to captivate all ages.
Marking their Victorian premiere in virtual reality, the films also introduce Geelong audiences to White Spark Pictures’ acclaimed shared VR cinema format, a concept already drawing audiences nationwide. Both The Antarctica Experience and The Great Kimberley Wilderness rank among Australia’s highest-grossing theatrical documentaries, cementing the company’s reputation as a leader in immersive storytelling.
White Spark Pictures founder and director Briege Whitehead said the experiences are designed to transport audiences beyond the screen entirely.
“These films give audiences access to places they may never otherwise have the chance to visit,” she said.
“You are not watching Antarctica, the Kimberley or deep space from a distance, you are inside those worlds, fully immersed and living the story.”
“We are thrilled to bring the experience to Geelong for its Victorian premiere season. It is emotional, immersive and completely unlike a traditional cinema experience, something families and audiences of all ages can share together.”
The Virtual Reality Cinema season runs at Village Cinemas Geelong from 1 June until 31 August, with limited sessions available throughout the season.
Tickets are now on sale via Village Cinemas.
