Mother’s Day gifting grows with Geelong City Market

Geelong City Market gives a gift that lasts.

This Saturday 9 May, Geelong City Market is inviting families to slow down, dig in, and create a Mother’s Day gift that grows—literally!

In a delightful partnership with Geelong Fagg’s Mitre 10 and the brand-new Geelong Compost, the market will transform into a living, breathing playground of soil, seeds, and small moments that matter.

At the heart of the fun is a hands-on kids’ planting experience. Little hands can explore the wonders of soil, discover how Geelong Compost is creating nutrient-rich magic for our gardens, and craft their very own Mother’s Day surprise to give to mum the next morning. From potting soil to planting seeds, giving them a careful watering, and finishing with a ribbon, these simple, thoughtful gifts will keep growing long after the weekend is over.

This isn’t just about dirt and greenery—it’s about connection which sits at the heart of Geelong City Market. Connection to the food we eat, the land we love, and each other. The market is a reminder that the most meaningful gifts aren’t bought—they’re made, nurtured, and shared.

While the soil takes centre stage at the Fagg’s Mitre 10 Kids potting station, the soundtrack of the day promises to be just as unforgettable. The Lara Big Band will roll through with their rich, swinging sound, while Geelong Opera delivers spellbinding performances that are sure to stop shoppers in their tracks. Expect moments when the hum of the market shifts into something utterly magical.

It all adds up to a Saturday bursting with life, music, and experiences that capture exactly what makes this market so special. There’s also favourite stallholders returning including FarmDog Brewing, Finn’s Oyster Bar, Geelong Region Olives, Spicify, Two Tins Patisserie, Canine Crunchies, and many more. On the Forte Magazine stage you will find Lily Williams from 9am, and Corey Cookson from 11.30am.

Come for your weekly shop, stay to plant a little magic, and leave with a gift that keeps on giving. Sometimes, the simplest things—a handful of soil, a tiny seed, a shared moment—turn out to be the most extraordinary.

In other exciting news, the weekly market will also turn to the evening for Taste of Geelong. The Night Market will take place on Friday 19 June from 4pm and 9pm at Little Malop Street with a call out currently for restaurants to join the celebrations. The Geelong City Market continues to make its mark on the region, jumping on other cultural initiatives and becoming a significant part of our community.
