A cornerstone of Australia’s music calendar, the NIMAs champion First Nations artistry, from revered veterans to the country’s freshest voices. The 2026 ceremony promises electrifying live performances, prestigious awards, and vital cultural conversation against the Top End’s iconic backdrop. Recent alumni, including Hall of Fame inductee Jessica Mauboy, BARKAA and 3%, underscore the awards’ ongoing commitment to honouring Indigenous pioneers and emerging talent alike.

The NIMAs sit within a week-long celebration of First Nations excellence, alongside Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair (DAAF), the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA), and National Indigenous Fashion Awards (NIFA), offering the perfect reason for visitors to experience a Top End long weekend of music, culture, and community.

Catherine Satour, Chairperson of MusicNT, said: “The NIMAs are a powerful celebration of First Nations music, culture and community. We are proud to see them return to Garramilla/Darwin in 2026, shining a national spotlight on Indigenous talent and leadership.”

Nominations are open across six categories—Artist of the Year, Best New Talent, Album of the Year, Film Clip of the Year, Community Clip of the Year, and Song of the Year—closing 19 June. Stay tuned for the full 2026 lineup, promising performances and moments not to be missed.
