Geelong City Market embraces Celtic spirit this weekend

National Celtic Folk Festival soft launches this weekend.

Geelong is set to get an early taste of St Patrick’s Day this Saturday 14 March, as Geelong City Market comes alive with the vibrant energy of the National Celtic Folk Festival.

Keep up to date with the latest in food and drinks across regional Victoria here.

For one day only, the market will transform into a bustling celebration of Celtic culture, where locals and visitors can shop, sample delicious treats, and soak up the music, stories, and traditions of Ireland. Highlights include live Celtic performances, Irish cocktail demonstrations from Anther Gin Distillery, and exclusive discounted tickets to the festival, available only at the market.

“This is about bringing the festival to the community,” says National Celtic Folk Festival Director Una McAlinden. “Geelong City Market already embodies the heart of our region—creativity, connection, and local pride—and layering in Celtic music and flavour makes it a perfect match.”

An immediate cornerstone of the Barwon region from its inception last year, Geelong City Market champions local artisans, produce, and culture, providing the ideal backdrop for this spirited takeover. Bold, lively, and unmistakably local, the takeover offers a tantalising preview of the National Celtic Folk Festival, returning to Portarlington from 5 to 8 June 2026 for four days of music, arts, and cultural celebration.

With lively tunes, storytelling, and a festive touch of Irish charm, Geelong City Market’s green takeover promises a day brimming with culture, community, and cheer—plus the chance to secure festival tickets ahead of the June festivities.

The festival taster adds to an already exciting program this week with Geelong City Market a stallholder list that includes Amazed Gluten Free, Apostle Whey Cheese, Austin’s Ambrosia, Danny Boy Distillery, Mushroom People, Spicify, The Fudge Factory, The Local Geelong, Two Tins Patisserie, Yarra Valley Berries, and many more. Over on our weekly Forte Magazine stage you’ll also find Holly Droomer and Marc Hayden splitting up the day with song.
