If your idea of a perfect lunch break involves sunshine, live music and zero pressure to rush back to your desk, Geelong City Council has you covered. This February, the city is rolling out Lunch on the Lawn – Summer Series, a free weekly initiative designed to bring the community together right in the heart of Geelong.
Running every Thursday throughout February, Lunch on the Lawn will transform the lawns outside Wurriki Nyal into a laid-back midday hangout, complete with live music, free summer-themed sweet treats and plenty of space to kick back with friends, colleagues or whoever you happen to bump into.
When: Thursdays – 5, 12, 19 and 26 February 2026, 12:00pm – 2:00pm
Where: Wurriki Nyal (on the lawn), Wadawurrung Country, 137–149 Mercer Street, Geelong

From 12.00pm to 2.00pm, the Mercer Street green space will come alive as workers, students and locals are encouraged to step away from their screens and soak up some genuine summer atmosphere. You can grab lunch from a nearby local trader or bring your own — the emphasis here is on slowing down, connecting and enjoying Central Geelong at its most relaxed.
The series kicks off in style, with Matt Baird set to provide the soundtrack for the first event, setting the tone for four weeks of easygoing live music and community vibes.
Importantly, Lunch on the Lawn is all about accessibility. The event is completely free, open to everyone, and proudly held on Wadawurrung Country, reinforcing Geelong City Council’s focus on inclusive, welcoming public spaces that support both local culture and local business.
With summer in full swing, this initiative feels like a timely reminder that sometimes the best parts of city life happen when we simply stop, sit on the grass and share a moment together.
So, mark your calendar, message the group chat and make your Thursdays something to look forward to.
