This month’s tipple is the Best’s Wines 2024 Blanc de Noir, a white sparkling, made from 100% shiraz grapes grown in Great Western, Victoria. Best’s is one of Australia’s oldest wineries (founded in 1866) and the current custodians, the Thomson family, have had a steady hand on the till for over 100 years now.
Keep up to date with the latest in food and drinks across regional Victoria here.
You should drink this wine as it’s made by one of Australia’s legendary wineries and is a rare example of a white sparkling wine made from shiraz.
On the nose you can expect loads of fresh red berries and stone fruit, with some more delicate pink grapefruit and pastry notes lurking in the background. The palate is fresh and zippy with driving acidity – a perfect aperitif style of bubbles. Given I’m writing this before the last weekend in September, let’s hope this wine pairs well with the sweet taste of victory. Oysters and a cheese platter would also work quite well should the unthinkable happen.
