New Noise brings a fresh frequency to Geelong’s creative youth landscape

The power of music is behind this new program

A new creative music program has launched in Geelong today, opening up a space where young people with disability can step into the rehearsal room, pick up instruments, and build songs together through energy, experimentation and shared ideas.

The program, New Noise, is designed for participants aged 10 to 25 and centres on band-based sessions that bring writing, playing and collaboration into a supported group setting focused on creative confidence and connection.

New Noise supports young people to unlock musical imagination, develop their sound and explore what becomes possible through collective creation. Sessions are structured around group music-making, where participants contribute ideas, experiment with instruments and develop original work together.

The program has been developed for NDIS participants, with an emphasis on accessibility, inclusion and responsiveness to individual support goals. Each session is designed to support participation at different levels of experience, with facilitation that encourages expression, skill development and social interaction through music.

Behind the initiative is Geelong musician, graphic designer and disability support worker Nathan Mossop. His experience spans more than 16 years in the live music industry and more than six years working within disability and mental health support, bringing together two strands of practice that shape the foundation of the program.

Mossop is also known within the Geelong music scene through projects including blyss and Ghost Orchard. His approach to New Noise draws on those experiences, particularly the collaborative nature of band environments and the creative exchange that develops through rehearsal and performance.

Sessions focus on hands-on music-making, with young people encouraged to explore instruments, build rhythms, write lyrics and develop songs together. The emphasis sits on participation and process, with creative ideas shaped collectively in real time.

New Noise was created to expand access to structured creative music opportunities for young people in the Geelong region. The program provides a consistent group setting where participants can engage with music in a supported environment while developing creative and social skills.

Referrals are managed through an intake process, with service agreements outlining supports, costs and program details. The launch marks the beginning of sessions delivered across the region, with an ongoing focus on inclusion, collaboration and creative development through music.
