Mysterious and enigmatic Australian producer Chapel (real name Guy) is back and with him comes a whole new sonic escapade in the form of his latest single, ‘Drive Lights.’
Inspired by the eerie, surreal romanticism and menacing tension of the film Mulholland Drive, as well as the idea of speeding along winding, back desert roads with city lights twinkling on the horizon, the song is a pulsating and throbbing concoction drum and synth sounds Chapel soaked up from ’80s and ’90s film scores, with the intension of scoring the film that plays inside his own brain.
Despite possessing the same zest as its predecessor – the cult, vaporwave debut single ‘Do The Marino’ – ‘Drive Lights’ explores darker, murkier r’n’b terrain, thanks to the soulful vocals of guest singer T.J Ferrari. And yet the song still offers a glimmer of light through its thick melodies and zooming fireworks – all before the signature Chapel sound of reverberating horns and heavy 808s come together and burst into frame, sending the whole song into a completely new trap galaxy.
