What started as a small community gathering in 2009 has grown into one of the region’s most eagerly awaited cultural events, attracting thousands from Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and beyond. La Fiera is more than just a festival; it’s a tribute to the vibrant Italian spirit, combining food, wine, music and a healthy dose of la dolce vita served with a side of genuine warmth from the locals.

“La Fiera turning 18 is something we’re incredibly proud of,” said Convenor John Reynolds-Smith. “It’s a testament to the leadership of the Myrtleford Chamber of Commerce, and the commitment of our volunteers, our sponsors, the community and the visitors who come back year after year. This year we’ll be celebrating the journey while keeping the festival fresh, fun and full of Italian energy. After all, we are turning 18.”

At the heart of the festival’s weekend festivities is La Festa on Saturday 16 May, where visitors will be treated to a glorious smorgasbord of authentic Italian dishes, served by local Italian clubs (Circoli) who bring their own regional flavours to the table. Think gnocchi, arancini, porchetta and, of course, the irresistible aroma of roasting chestnuts filling the air. Festival-goers can expect to indulge in these mouth-watering delights while soaking in the infectious energy of live performances, with familiar favourites returning to the stage alongside some exciting new talent.

But this isn’t just about a weekend of food and music. It’s about celebrating community, family and the timeless connection to Italian heritage. “La Fiera has not just been about food and entertainment,” Reynolds-Smith explained. “It’s about sharing Italian culture and stories, and a Festa for friends and family spending time together. This year’s program will reflect that spirit, with something Italian for attendees and visitors of all ages.”

As the festival celebrates this significant milestone, it’s also encouraging attendees to make a weekend of it, inviting them to stay longer and explore the natural beauty of the Alpine Valleys. Picture yourself strolling through the crisp autumn air, with leaves turning golden, enjoying a glass of regional wine, or cycling along the picturesque trails. It’s the perfect setting for a celebration of everything Italian and more.

Though the full program won’t be released until mid-March, festival organisers have already promised a lively, party-like atmosphere, with exciting new experiences in the mix. Expect to see new faces, fresh flavours and even more Italian energy than ever before. The Great Alpine Road will be closed for the day as Myrtleford’s main street transforms into a festive Piazza, filled with music, laughter and la passione of Italy.
