In 2024, 297,792 Australians sold or shopped at more than 13,000 garage sales nationwide, giving 755,261 items a new life and saving them from landfill.

This year’s festival brings together some much-loved Australians including ARIA Award–winning musician Montaigne (who repped Australia at Eurovision 2021), design icon Beci Orpin, Costa Georgiadis (Gardening Australia’s host and part-time gnome), and dirtgirl from dirtgirlworld who are cooking up something special with Kids Garage Sales.

Feeling the urge to purge but don’t know where to start? Enter the Great Aussie Clear Out, a 31-day spring decluttering challenge designed to get you sale-ready one step at a time. Each day has a simple task: clear the coffee table, tame the Tupperware, pick out five things you haven’t worn in a year. By the end, you’ll have turned a mountain of clutter into neat, sellable molehills. Plus, join the dedicated FB group for daily support and cheerleading as you get organised.

No garage? No worries. Community sales are bigger than ever in 2025 thanks to partnerships with Grow It Local, Australian Men’s Shed Association, Australian Neighbourhood Houses & Centres Association and more, making it easy for everyone to get involved. Want to go bigger? Rally the neighbours for a street wide sale or ask your local library, community garden, radio station or even the pub to host a group sale.

Kids can also join the nation’s biggest secondhand treasure hunt with Kids Garage Sales, a new initiative designed to teach little ones the joy of passing things on, reducing waste, and giving toys, clothes and books a second life.

It’s time to clear the cupboards, rally the mates, and be part of Australia’s biggest clear out. Whether you’re in for one day or both weekends, Garage Sale Trail makes it easy with how-to guides, sale tips and promotional materials all provided. Register now for free!
