Established in the 1950’s as Cliffy Hauser’s General Store, the corner store running up the hill on Raglan Street was renowned for its exquisite range of produce, groceries, and farm supplies all crammed into the rustic weatherboard and corrugated iron building. Today the heart and soul of the original establishment has not only been preserved, but is thriving as an emporium and cafe under the conscious direction of local business partners Liam Thornycroft and Samantha Mackley.
Cliffy’s Emporium has fast become both a local and tourist favourite. Farmers frequent Cliffy’s with their freshest and finest fruit and vegetables, the old timber shelves are still stocked with a colourful array of local produce, mineral water and preserves, and speciality groceries are procured from near and far.

Open seven days, the café is one of the best known in the region, particularly for pop-in’s after attending the Daylesford Sunday Market at Daylesford Spa Country Railway just up the street. Warming up inside next to the cosy fireplace during the winter freeze, perching up at the long timber counters (a fixture of the original build) or sitting under the grapevine laced verandah, the comfort of Cliffy’s is unparalleled.
Curated to showcase the local produce of cheese, meat, eggs, oil, honey and preserves, the menu takes you from breakfast to brunch, lunch and into dinner. Eggs with sides including roasted sumac tomatoes and marinated roast mushrooms, or the go-to charcuterie plate featuring local cured meats, cheese, olives and pickled vegetables. From plate to paper bag to take home, the dual nature of Cliffy’s allows you to take home a selection of goods to create your own dishes. Baskets of freshly picked fruit and vegetables rest on the counter, whilst the grocer side stocks fresh Italian pasta, garden-fresh produce, paté, cheese, bottles of regional wine, and loaves of locally baked bread.
Cliffy’s Emporium Daylesford is a timeless tourist and local spot, capturing all of the charm of the quaint foothill location.
