Tarot is a divisive practice; one that is often met with eyerolls and a deep misperception that readings are a wrought. On the other end of the spectrum, the spiritually inclined swear by the deck as divine intervention.

If you’re unfamiliar with the practice of Tarot, Tarot readings involve a deck of 78 playing cards, each brimming with symbolism and meaning, used to guide, inspire and offer insight to the individual receiver. The six century old practice is led by a reader delivering the messages of the cards as selected by the seeker of answers. You may have heard of the Queens of Cups, or the Nine of Swords, or even the King of Pentacles – vibrant in nature and laced in language, these cards tell a story of the past, present and future.

As with most passions, the draw to tarot was a gravitational pull defined by fascination and an interest in spirituality. You could say the career step was in the cards…

Operating out of Bottles & Barrels on Aberdeen Street in Geelong West, Bloom Tarot is a brand new offering for Geelong and afar. Having popped up this month, Bloom Tarot taps into the traditional reading ritual. Either in person or online, the subject selects three cards from the tarot deck. These cards are placed to represent the past, the present and the future.

In what Bloom Tarot describes as an intuitive uplifting reading, the card’s meaning is derived through messages and words and applied to the receiver’s situation. It’s not predicting, it’s not fortune telling, and it’s not definitive. Cards are shaped to their suitors, with Bloom Tarot ensuring that there are never any negative readings. The aim is to help to calm people who are experiencing a tumultuous time by portraying the message for what they need to hear in the moment. But it’s also a bit of fun!

Like girlhood, tarot acts as another voice of reason, reminiscing on your past (whether it’s the circumstances or choices you’ve made in the past like love, family, career or personal life choices), assessing your current situation and your feelings around it, and then seeking some form of reassurance for the future.
