City of Greater Geelong offer extended parking solution in the CBD

Driving visitation back into the CBD has been a top agenda item for the council across 2025.

Today, the City of Greater Geelong has announced the continuation of their June solution to parking problems in the CBD, extending half-price Fridays at Busport Car Park.

The City first introduced the initiative in June 2025 to provide more cost-effective parking options and encourage more central Geelong-based employees to work from the office on Fridays.

The move means that commuters, shoppers and other visitors to central Geelong can continue to park all-day in one of 124 casual parking spaces on Level two of Busport Car park for $7.70 every Friday, plus surcharges with the Easy Park app.

“More people visiting and working in central Geelong on Friday means more customers frequenting the variety of cafes, eateries and other businesses that call our CBD home,” explains Greater Geelong Mayor, Stretch Kontelj OAM.

“So come take advantage of half-price parking and support our fantastic businesses here in central Geelong.”

Greater Geelong Deputy Mayor Ron Nelson adds, “Not only does it get more people in central Geelong during the day – it also encourages people to stay there after work too. People can come into work, then enjoy a dinner on the waterfront or in our thriving Little Malop Street precinct, a show at Geelong Arts Centre or Costa Hall, and everything else our CBD has to offer after hours.”

The introduction follows on from the city’s January announcement, opening level two of the Busport car park to the public, thereby creating an additional 124 parking spaces in the CBD in an effort to ease pressure on its network of short-term on-street parking sites. The car park will be open daily between 6am and 11pm, with payment required between 9am and 5.30pm.

Busport Car Park is located on Clare Street, off of Brougham Street in central Geelong. Parking at Busport Car Park requires the EasyPark app, which can be downloaded through the iTunes store or at Google Play. The app offers two pricing models, a subscription of $1.99 per month plus 2.25 per cent surcharge per transaction, or casual parking rates which incur an 11.5 per cent surcharge per transaction.

This move also comes in addition to the introduction of free parking in metered 2-hour street parking bays across the city centre on weekdays, and free parking on weekends. Drivers are still required to input their registration into the parking metres to secure their carpark and ensure they are staying within the two hour timeframe.

It’s all driving traffic back into the heart of Geelong.
