‘Aurora’ is a deceptively minimal track brimming with depth and nuance. Anchored by a steadfast piano and Finn Andrews’ haunting, layered vocals, the song captures a rare, in-the-moment intimacy. Andrews reflects, “This song was written as it was being recorded, which is a very rare thing for me. On the day we made it, a massive geomagnetic storm swept over parts of New Zealand, and images of the aurora lit up the papers. Sometimes things are so beautifully simple.”

Fragile World, arriving just over a year after the critically lauded Asphodels, marks a bold shift in energy and tone for The Veils. Recorded live to tape in New Zealand by Paddy Hill, with production by Tom Healy (Folk Bitch Trio, Tiny Ruins, The Chills), the album captures the band at their most instinctive and urgent.

Andrews shares insight into the album’s creation: “I make each album, generally, as a kind of atonement for the last. Asphodels was so quiet and introspective, I think I just wanted to make something strident and full of life for a goddamn change.”

The album’s title resonates on multiple levels: as a reflection of our fragile present, where institutions seem to falter, and as a metaphor for the act of creation itself. Making music, Andrews notes, is a delicate process, with countless small choices gradually forming a cohesive whole.

“We went into the studio with a lot of songs but very little idea of the arrangements or instrumentation. It was exhilarating to have no idea what this record would sound like and only a few weeks to figure it out. Mostly Tom and I play everything, with Joseph McCallum joining at times. It was instinctual, intense, and at moments frightening—but in the best possible way.”

With its immediacy, intensity, and emotional clarity, Fragile World stands as one of The Veils’ most compelling statements to date. Since signing to Rough Trade Records at just 16, Finn Andrews and The Veils have released eight studio albums, including The Runaway Found (2004), Nux Vomica (2006), Sun Gangs (2009), Time Stays, We Go (2013), Total Depravity (2016), …And Out Of The Void Came Love (2023), and Asphodels (2025). Their work has also drawn the attention of cinematic visionaries such as Paolo Sorrentino, Tim Burton, and David Lynch.

Having toured relentlessly across Europe, North America, and Australia, The Veils’ 2026 Australian dates promise an immersive, full-bodied live experience of Fragile World. Fans can expect a performance as vivid, urgent, and unforgettable as the album itself.
