Stage classics, boundary-pushing performance, and a lot of laughs: It must be March at Her Majesty’s Ballarat

What do Jimmy Carr, Ned Kelly, and Juliet have in common? It's not a punchline, they're all part of Her Majesty's Theatre Ballarat's season.

Her Majesty’s Theatre Ballarat have an eclectic yet impressive program of stage shows taking to their heritage site this March. The year started strong with major touring works including Amplified: The Exquisite Rock and Rage of  Chrissy Amphlett, and continues to keep the momentum rolling.

&Juliet *Final Days*

When: Until 8 March

From the Emmy-winning writer of Schitt’s Creek, & Juliet flips the script on the world’s most famous love story. What if Juliet didn’t end it all over Romeo, and instead, chose her own ending? This pop-laced production will have you singing to modern hits like ‘Since U Been Gone’, ‘Roar’, ‘Baby One More Time’, ‘Larger Than Life’, ‘That’s The Way It Is’, and ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling!’, as Juliet navigates her renewed life.

Lighting The Dark

When: 14 March

The human and the hero, the two collide in this groundbreaking performance. Lighting the Dark is a bold new work by Chris Dyke, a Kaurna (Adelaide) based dancer and choreographer living with Down syndrome, as accompanied by award winning ensemble DanceNorth.

Jimmy Carr: Laughs Funny

When: 17 & 18 March

The mad with a punchy wit and an even punchier laugh, Jimmy Carr heads to Ballarat for what is bound to be a bold, anything goes stand-up show. Be prepared for the unexpected and the hilarious.

Swan Lake

When: 19 March

A ballet classic; Swan Lake is beautifully re-staged by Victorian State Ballet’s director, Michelle Sierra. The traditional choreography by Marius Petipa to Tchaikovsky’s timeless score, Swan Lake showcases the elegance and precision of classical ballet with a shimmering sea of white tutus and a story that is laced in love.

Human Nature: MTWN20

When: 21 March

Human Nature are ready to give you some lovin’ Ballarat as they bring their Motown tunes to the stage. A band that shot to stardom over twenty years ago, their foray into the Motown Sound has seen them find their flavour and transport fans back into the heyday of the genre. Of course, they add their own signature spin, making them one of Australia’s favourite live acts.

REG Livermore’s Ned Kelly The Musical

When: 28 March

His name is etched into national folklore. The outlaw bushranger, his gang and that iconic suit of armour — who was Ned Kelly? A celebrated anti-hero or simply a cold-blooded killer? Get to know his story as Victorian Opera breathes fresh life into a neglected work of Australian theatre with Reg Livermore’s Ned Kelly: The Musical. Originally produced in the late 1970s, the musical charts the life and times of Australia’s most notorious bandit.
