The four-course banquet sees the five distinguished Hamo Hospitality portfolio players, 1915, Woolstore, Retreat, Paddock and MexiCam, each contribute a course that reflects the personality and history of their venue. Paul Traynor, General Manager of Hamo Hospitality, describes the event as a defining moment for the group, saying it brings together the character of their venues, the people who shape them and the stories they hold.

Traynor says, “This is a huge moment for us. The Heritage Table brings together everything we love about our venues, their history, their character, and the people behind them.”

Set across spaces steeped in Geelong’s industrial and community heritage, from the Federal Mills precinct and historic Woolstores to Newtown’s former Bareena Post Office, the menu is designed as a progression through place and story. Each dish has been conceived to reflect the essence of its venue: a course inspired by the Woolstore nods to the region’s strong wool and farming heritage, while a dish from 1915 draws on the building’s industrial roots and signature cooking style, offering a tactile connection to the past with every bite.

Local ingredients take centre stage, sourced from growers, makers and producers shaping the region’s food culture today. Geelong City Market stallholders will also feature throughout, adding further layers of connection to the city’s vibrant food community.

The evening unfolds as more than a traditional sit-down dinner. Before each course, chefs and Hamo Hospitality’s sommelier will share insights into the dishes and wine pairings, exploring not just flavour but the stories, places, local landscapes, and ideas that inspire them. Matched wines, along with beer, spirits and soft drinks, are thoughtfully chosen to complement each course and highlight local provenance wherever possible.

Chef and sustainability advocate, and one of the forces behind Geelong City Market, Simon Toohey leads the night, his focus on seasonal produce and connection to local food systems perfectly aligned with the event’s ethos. Local market producers will also share the stories behind the ingredients, while guests can browse selected stalls on the mezzanine, deepening the evening’s celebration of Geelong’s food and community.

The experience continues beyond the table, with door prizes including a private in-home chef experience with Woolstore and The Retreat Head Chef, Eli Grubb, and an afterparty at MexiCam’s from 10pm. Guests are welcomed with a drink on arrival and can enjoy games throughout the evening, creating a lively, convivial atmosphere. Think karaoke, bowling, electronic darts, and a fiesta finale.

The dining event is part of Tastes of Greater Geelong, a month-long program of food and drink staged in venues across the Geelong region to showcase the excellence of Geelong’s dining and producer scene. This City of Greater Geelong initiative is in its 14th year, and has become a major winter staple of the city. The Heritage Table is bound to be a highlight of this year’s extensive program.

The Heritage Table is an invitation to experience Geelong’s history, its people and its producers in a new light. It’s also a fantastic way to explore five menus from some of Geelong’s most renowned dining destinations, all under one roof, and in one sitting.

Hamo Hospitality’s most ambitious event to date promises a night to remember—secure your seat at the table here.
