Winter Solstice – One Act Plays 2026 moves beyond the stage to embrace the astronomical event. The theatre will glow with open fires, the preshow and interval enlivened by live music, and guests may savour a glass of aromatic mulled wine, allowing the evening’s warmth to seep into both body and spirit. Here, amid storytelling and song, the Winter Solstice becomes a celebration of creativity, reflection, and community.

The first play on the Solstice stage is Unravel by Jade Kemp and directed by Carol Berry; a quietly profound exploration of grief, self-discovery, and the resonances within family. Eve, a forty-three-year-old mother, confronts her own hidden truths while completing a clinical assessment for her daughter, Gemma. As she navigates the questionnaires, a cascade of intimate revelations mirrors her lifelong experiences, drawing her into profound self-reflection. With five roles spanning the twenties to fifties, Unravel offers a tender meditation on identity, empathy, and the invisible threads connecting parent and child.

In contrast, Acquisition by Jack Price, directed by Connor McMahon, brings sharp wit and satirical humour to Winter Solstice – One Act Plays 2026. Set in an outback town facing compulsory land acquisition, an Australian family contends with generational tension, long-buried secrets, and the absurdities of bureaucracy. With the irreverent heart of The Castle, Acquisition is both a spirited comedy and a poignant reflection on home, heritage, and belonging.

Winter Solstice – One Act Plays 2026 promises an evening where warmth, music, and storytelling converge. It is a night to witness the vibrancy of local theatre, to feel the glow of open fires, to sip mulled wine, and to celebrate the shortest day of the year with richness, reflection, and delight.
